Origins

While many origin stories for the game of domino are fictional, there is a history behind it that is documented in comic books. The game was probably introduced to Europe in the early eighteenth century by French prisoners of war. It spread throughout Europe and eventually made its way to North America. Before it became popular in Europe, the game was played by Inuit people with bone-like objects. The western game of domino evolved from these earliest versions.

Rules

To play the game of domino, players must have a set of dominoes. These tiles are mixed before playing, and are placed face down on the table. Players take turns moving one tile at a time, drawing a domino and playing it. The last player to draw and play a tile is known as the “shuffler.”

Materials

Materials for dominoes come in many different forms, from simple wood to elaborate and luxurious wood veneers. Traditional sets are made from wood or bone, with contrasting black or white pips. Modern-day dominoes are often made from petroleum-based plastic, but there are many different types of wooden dominoes available.
